I walked into the office this morning, and my diagonal desk mate was in a chipper mood. For the average person this would be a good thing, but said Diagonal Desk Mate is not your average person. Chipper for DDM means I have to standby while she chatters on about her cats, medical issues, and otherwise carries on about the incompetence of most of the abroad correspondence she has to deal with.

I was rolling my eyes and scoffing at my computer screen by 8:42 am. Not a good sign. Ear buds went in STAT, and my normal desk mate emailed me a link to a Metallica song on YouTube. "To soothe the mind," she said. Yeah, right, I thought.

But curiously, given the right mood and state of affairs, Metallica exceeded my expectations.
