I have several students with WELL-developed imaginations, but only two students who are boys! One of my boy-students falls into the imagination category. It doesn't matter what we are talking about, he figures out some way to make it into a crash-action sequence and often ends up writhing around in pretend pain on the floor. (In a piano lesson...) Some kids, you can tell, are doing this for attention, but Michael just seems to live happily in his own little, imaginary world of collisions, crashes, action, unusual smells, etc.
Last week I asked him to fill in the note name on his new song. "There's a pencil right there," I said, pointing to a yellow pencil on the music stand.
Michael's reply? Totally to himself, as he reached for the pencil, Michael said passionately, "Ahh. The golden pencil of destiny!"
